Globaltel, a French telecommunications company, will deploy its system on the African continent to enable telecom aerials to operate with low-carbon and stable energy. The announcement was made in South Africa during the 2018 Africacom edition.
Globaltel’s offer could revolutionise the telecommunications sector in Africa. Mobile networks could now cover rural and remote areas. Because in these territories, the deployment of telecoms is hampered by the lack of infrastructure, particularly electricity.
To overcome this obstacle, Globaltel manufactures and supplies equipment that is energy efficient and “affordable”, as one company manager states. The telecom antennas work with solar energy. It is therefore a solar solution, tailor-made for Africa.
For its African expansion, Globaltel plans to start in Ivory Coast
Globaltel’s interest in the African market was expressed in Cape Town, South Africa, where Africacom, the continent’s largest telecom event, was held from the 13th to the 15th of November 2018.
For the French company, the best entry point would be Ivory Coast. In this West African country, the government is considering the adoption of a “universal service” to enable the entire population to have access to mobile telecommunications.
Created in 2007, Globaltel is an independent company that currently deploys and operates its own mobile and Internet network in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, a French archipelago located in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. Until 2013, it developed its activities in the fixed and mobile telephony sector in metropolitan France as well as in Internet access services for businesses. Its expansion in Africa could improve the coverage of the telephone companies already present, by offering an efficient and non-polluting solution.
