“The informal city, innovating for sustainable Mediterranean and African territories”. This is the theme that will drive the 3rd edition of the Med’Innovant Africa competition initiated by Euroméditerranée, a French public urban development institution. Interested start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have until August 31, 2022 to submit their applications.
This innovation event aims to identify, promote and accelerate project leaders whose innovations (solutions and services) are in line with the new development and sustainability imperatives of Mediterranean and African territories, says the organization based in Marseille, southern France.
Initially, the jury will select five projects to be presented to experts in various fields. Subsequently, two sustainable innovations, including the “Jury Prize” and the “Coup de Coeur Prize” will be selected and awarded at the Emerging Valley International Summit to be held on November 29, 2022 in France. The winners will each receive financial support of 7,000 euros and coaching from investors committed to sustainable development.

“We have to imagine the city first in terms of its geographical and human context. In this case, there is not one Africa, but many Africas. Nor is there a uniform African population, but a multitude of African singularities. The concept of smart city, for example, can therefore, in our vision of this African diversity, only be the instrument to improve the uses while reducing costs, “explains Hugues Parant, the director general of Euroméditerranée.
