Algeria is continuing its race towards green mobility. The Centre de Recherche en Technologies Industrielles (CRTI) based in Algiers has just launched a call for proposals with a view to selecting the best design for an electric car “to complete the prototype developed by its laboratory team. This involves a digital file containing the various parts, such as the doors, bumpers and rear boot”, explains director Riad Badji.
The initiative should enable young Algerian designers with skills in computer-aided mechanical design (CAD) to use their models to contribute to what will be one of the first electric vehicles to be designed and assembled entirely in this North African country, which is used to polluting vehicles. Entries, which close on 20 December 2023, will be judged on the basis of technical specifications relating to exterior and interior design.
“A 5-door hatchback model, with an overall length of 4,375 mm, a width without mirrors of 1,795 mm and a wheelbase of between 1,440 and 1,520 mm. The wheelbase (distance between the front and rear wheel axles) is 2640 mm, while the tyre diameter is set at 16 or 17 inches”, says the institution located in the western suburbs of Algiers.

Meanwhile, the public energy company Sonelgaz is preparing to deploy 1,000 charging points for electric vehicles in the 58 wilayas. These facilities will be installed before the second half of 2024 in partnership with Naftal, the subsidiary of the national company for the research, production, transport, processing and marketing of hydrocarbons (Sonatrach).
