Weziza Benin is delivering on its promises. The Energicity subsidiary is starting to commission mini-grids built with a Millennium Challenge Account Benin II grant. Recently, the company completed the construction of two small solar photovoltaic plants equipped with a storage system and a small distribution network. These facilities provide clean electricity to 3,000 people in the communities of Takpatchiomè and Gougouta in the municipality of Azolve, Couffo district.
“Weziza Benin has also passed a rigorous inspection process conducted by the Beninese Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management (ABERME),” says Energicity, which continues to build its solar mini-grids across the country.

In all, the company plans to electrify 40,000 people, mainly in the regions of Couffo, Zou and Collines. The project was selected as part of a competitive process by the Government of Benin and the Millennium Challenge Association Benin II to electrify rural households.
As such, Weziza Benin also receives funding from the Beninese Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management (ABERME) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) of the United States government. In 2019, Weziza Benin committed to deploying about 2 MWp of solar capacity to meet the growing demand of the communities it serves. Its project is also being implemented with the support of Oikocredit. In April 2022, the impact investment company provided Weziza Benin with $1.4 million in financing.
