The results of the call for tenders for the technical studies of 300 mini drinking water networks in Cameroon are known. They are favorable to six companies based in Morocco, Mali, Senegal, Germany and Italy. The announcement was made by the Cameroonian Ministry of Water and Energy, which is piloting the project.
Although the names of the companies selected were not revealed, Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba recalled the missions of each of them. In addition to the technical studies for the construction of 300 mini drinking water networks, the companies will build the capacities of the actors in the chain of construction of the various installations, and will collect and store information that is vital for the management of rural water supply.

These technical studies are part of the component 1 of the Project of studies and preparation of the Program of drinking water supply and sanitation in rural areas (Project of Studies-MRU) which also includes the realization of feasibility studies on the use of solar energy in a drinking water supply (AEP), in a context marked by the climate change as well as the study of the water resources and the implementation of a national system of information on water. The last two components are devoted to institutional support and the operation of the project management structure.
Guaranteeing the supply of drinking water to 900,000 people
The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program aims to improve the supply of drinking water to more than 900,000 people. The program will also benefit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Cameroon’s Ministry of Water and Energy is financing the MRU Project with 3.6 billion CFA francs (about 5.6 million euros), thanks to a loan from the African Development Fund (ADF) and funding from the African Climate Technology and Finance Network and Center (ACTFCN).
