In Cameroon, the supply of drinking water could be strengthened in the localities of Ngali 2, Edzendouan, Lobo and the tourist site of Ebogo in the Central Region. South Korea is providing a grant of 110 million CFA francs, about 153,000 euros, for the implementation of a project in this part of Cameroon. The funding was announced on 31 August 2022 in the presence of Cameroon’s Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey.
As part of this project, each of the four beneficiary localities will be provided with a drinking water supply system. The system will include a borehole equipped with a solar water pump to reduce the effect of power cuts. The water pumped from the water table will be stored in a 10,000 m3 tank, before being distributed to the population via three standpipes.

This project should contribute to the improvement of water supply in the Centre. The other regions of Cameroon are also far from universal access to drinking water. In order to improve the supply of water to the population, the Cameroonian government is planning to build 25 simplified drinking water supply systems in the northern region. This project was announced in July 2022.
Initiatives already underway in the Central African country include the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project (Paea-MRU). According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Cameroon, in 2018 the rate of access to drinking water was 77% in urban areas and 45% in rural areas.
