Côte d'Ivoire becomes the 9th African country to become a member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC). Through this membership, the West African country is committed to the promotion of ecological infrastructures. This mission will be accomplished by the Côte d'Ivoire Green Market and Building Council (Côte d'Ivoire GMBC), launched on June 6, 2020, by a collective of construction companies.
Côte d’Ivoire is fully committed to environmentally friendly construction. The West African country now has an association that serves as a focal point for the World Green Building Council (WGBC). It is the Côte d’Ivoire Green Market and Building Council (Côte d’Ivoire GMBC), created on the 6th of June 2020 in Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire.
The mission of the young association, composed of ten members already active in sustainable development in Côte d’Ivoire, is to encourage the people of Côte d’Ivoire to promote achievements in line with the concept of sustainable development. “Our activities will be based on three strategies: reforestation, precision (satellite) agriculture and Edge certifications,” said Isaac Sy, chairman of GMBC Côte d’Ivoire.
The precision agriculture mentioned above is indeed not far from resilient agriculture. It is based on the principle of managing agricultural plots of land in order to optimise yields and investments, while seeking to take better account of the climatic variability of the environment. While Edge Certification, on the other hand, is a process for assessing a company’s compliance in the areas of equal pay, employment, promotion, training and leadership development mentoring.
The World Green Building Council
The Green Market and Building Council (GMBC) of Côte d’Ivoire was created on the sidelines of the celebration of the 2020 edition of the World Environment Day in Côte d’Ivoire. Through this association, the country becomes the 9th African member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC).
The WGBC is a global network of building professionals who advocate for healthy and sustainable construction. Since 39% of carbon dioxide emissions are related to buildings and construction, the network’s objective is to achieve zero net CO2 emissions in all constructions by 2050.
