Waste management is a major challenge in African countries and the problem is far from being limited to this part of the world. Egypt is among those countries that are increasingly engaged in the “effective management” of waste generated in its major urban centres. The country of the pharaohs is preparing to host a conference and an exhibition on this important topic. It is the Egy Waste & Recycling Expo which will be held from 28 to 30 March 2020.
The event, which will take place at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) in Cairo, will host no less than 120 international exhibitors, including those from the Middle East. The exhibition will cover solid waste management (agricultural and municipal). These include collection, transport, storage, scrap packaging systems, scrap screening and separation, compaction and shredding, measurement and inspection, laboratories, secondary metal production, security and trade control.
The issue of waste in sustainable cities will also be discussed during the conference. The issues of medical and hazardous waste will also be on the agenda, as well as landfills, equipment, technologies and tools for recycling, professional services, energy production from waste, waste handling and logistics. According to the organisers, the event will welcome 18,000 visitors. The Egy Waste & Recycling Expo is supported by several international institutions, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
