The Ethiopian government continues to implement its water and irrigation projects in the country. It recently sought the expertise of Water Ways Technologies, an Israeli agro-technology company specialising in providing irrigation solutions to agricultural producers, to implement five water and irrigation projects in Ethiopia. The projects will require an investment of 28 million Ethiopian Birrs, equivalent to more than $851,000.

The water and irrigation projects

The new water and irrigation projects in Ethiopia will be carried out by Irri-Al-Tal, a subsidiary of Water Ways Technologies. They include the construction of water supply and control systems for a polymer plant in northern Ethiopia and the upgrading of a water reservoir near Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

Irri-Al-Tal will also install a drip irrigation system on 12 hectares in central Ethiopia. This will be used to irrigate an avocado plantation. Shade net structures and irrigation equipment will also be installed for a vegetable farm in central Ethiopia.

Finally, a 100-hectare vineyard irrigation system installed by Water Ways 10 years ago in central Ethiopia will be upgraded. “These projects will enable producers and farmers in the country to increase yields, optimise water use and maximise profits,” said Ohad Haber, president and chief executive officer of Irri-Al-Tal.

The company is expected to deliver the work in the first half of 2020.
