More news on the project to build a photovoltaic solar power plant at Bondoukou in the Gontougo region of Ivory Coast. The concession agreement for the construction of this electricity infrastructure was approved by the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 24 May 2023. This is a public-private partnership (PPP) under which the concessionaire will develop, finance, build and operate the Bondoukou photovoltaic solar power plant.
On the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week in January 2023, independent power producer (IPP) Amea Power signed the concession contract for the construction of the Bondoukou solar power plant. At the same time, the Emirati energy company signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) under which the output from the Bondoukou solar power plant will be sold to the compagnie ivoirienne d’électricité Ivorian Electricity Company (CIE) for 25 years.

The approval of “the agreement is part of the promotion of private sector participation in the development of the electricity sector with a view to meeting the growing demand for electricity. It has been signed for a period of twenty-five years from the date of commissioning of the plant, scheduled for fifteen months from now”, explains Amadou Coulibaly, spokesman for the Ivorian government.
The Bondoukou solar power plant will be installed on an 85-hectare site 420 km north-east of the economic capital Abidjan. The plant will be capable of injecting 87,100 MWh of electricity a year into Ivory Coast’s national grid. The Bondoukou photovoltaic solar power plant will require an investment of 37 billion CFA francs, or just over 56 million euros, before it is commissioned in 15 months’ time.
