As part of its Greenbiz programme, the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC) is launching a call for applications to build the capacity and finance green start-ups developing innovative solutions in Kenya, particularly in the waste management, water and energy sectors. Interested start-ups have until 15 April 2024 to apply.
To meet the challenges of climate change in Kenya, the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC) launched the Greenbiz Programme in 2021, which aims to support start-ups working towards sustainable development (SDGs) in the East African country. To this end, a call for applications was opened on 15 March 2024 for Kenyan entrepreneurs.
These are start-ups specialising in climate technologies or related models in the fields of waste, water, renewable energy, commercial forestry or agri-food. Interested start-ups must submit their bids by 15 April 2024 at the latest.
Support for 300 green projects by 2025
The selected start-ups will receive 12 months’ support, enabling them to develop their concept and move on to the marketing stage. A second 12-month programme is planned to equip start-ups with fund-raising techniques. This training will take place in the incubator of the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre, which accelerates the development, deployment and transfer of locally relevant climate and clean energy technologies in Kenya.
The aim of the Kenyan centre is to support 300 start-ups by 2025 and to help create 3,000 jobs through the Greenbiz programme, thereby improving resilience in the face of climate change. The initiative is supported by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
