The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) has published the results of the pre-qualifications for the construction of the 400 MW Noor Midelt III solar photovoltaic park. At least three Moroccan companies are in the running, alongside multinationals specialising in renewable energy.

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) has published the results of a call for tenders for the construction of the third solar farm in the Noor Midelt programme. Among the fifteen independent power producers (IPPs) are three Moroccan companies. Green Of Africa is in the running with its Spanish partner Acciona Generacion Renovable. The same goes for Nareva Holding, which is continuing the selection process with Saudi company Acwa Power.

The consortium formed by Taqa Morocco and UAE IPP Masdar remains in the running, as does the Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios (Spain)/Vinci Concessions (France) consortium. EDF Renouvelables, the subsidiary of Électricité de France (EDF) and its partner, the Japanese company Mitsui, have also been chosen by Masen. SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development, the only Chinese company, has formed a consortium with Emirati IPP Amea Power.

There is also the Kahrabel FZE (United Arab Emirates)/GDF International (France) consortium, which wants to participate in the implementation of the Noor Midelt programme. Spain’s Iberdrola Renovables Internacional is the sole bidder for the Noor Midelt III solar power plant concession. The plant, which will have a capacity of 400 MWp, will be equipped with a battery-based electricity storage system with a capacity of around 400 MWh.

“With its three power stations, Noor Midelt I, Noor Midelt II and Noor Midelt III, the Noor Midelt complex will represent one of the largest solar and renewable storage capacities in the world, with a total installed capacity of around 1,600 MW, and will represent a real opportunity for sustainable socio-economic development for the region in which it is located,” says MASEN. The Moroccan agency has still not published the final results of the call for tenders for the construction of the 400 MW Noor Midelt II power plant, for which EDF Renouvelables, Iberdrola Renovables Internacional and several other multinationals had been pre-qualified.
