The municipality of Taza wants to improve the management of its household waste and similar through better governance. The Communal Council of Taza has just validated the project to create “Attoraya”, the local development company (SDL) of Taza. The structure that will be created soon will ensure the continuity of the management service of household waste and similar.

Currently, the management of this waste is provided by the municipality. Taza alone produces 18,000 tons of household and similar waste per day. The Attoraya wants to be more efficient both in the management and operation of these wastes, as for their evacuation to the landfill (CET) to be established in Taza.

Towards the recovery of waste in fertilizer

A feasibility study is underway for the development of the site. The CET will also have units for the sorting and recovery of household waste in fertilizer. In addition to reducing pollution, the development of the CET will be a job niche for many Moroccans. The municipality of Taza will also need manpower to work in the future local development company. “Priority will be given to the youth of Taza. We will launch a recruitment campaign for about twenty graduate agents and other profiles capable of integrating the Attoraya,” explains the chairman of the Board of Directors of the SDL, Abdelouahed El Massoudi, also mayor of Taza.

The deployment of future Attoraya agents in the Moroccan municipality should also contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6 by Morocco. It aims in particular to achieve universal access to sanitation by 2030. To this end, the Cherifian kingdom, which generates six million tons of waste per year, recently joined the African Circular Economy Alliance (ACEA). This is a leading platform to promote business cooperation, knowledge sharing and technology transfer to accelerate the development of the circular economy.
