In Morocco, Innovatel Engineering and the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer at Hassan II University in Casablanca are jointly organising the first “Pedagogic Africa Smart City”. The event, which will be held from 15 to 17 March 2023, will have as its theme “Moroccan engineering for the smart city”. This will be done through conferences and workshops on sustainable mobility and energy transition.
During three days, participants, including companies specialising in digital solutions, investors and officials from local authorities in Africa will discuss the mechanisms of digital transformation of urban areas on the continent in general and in Morocco in particular. These include, for example, innovations related to the eco-responsible consumption of resources, particularly water, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate access to basic services, particularly telemedicine and the digital economy.
“The experts will exchange their experiences and present their innovations likely to respond effectively to current and future challenges in terms of the technological development of our cities. Thus, the exhibitions will give rise to the presentation of a model of a miniature smart city on an area of 2,000 square meters, which includes all technologies,” say the organizers.

The “Pedagogic Africa Smart City” exhibition will contribute to raising the Moroccan progress in ecological transition. It is in this context that the authorities of this North African Kingdom announced in early 2023 that they would launch a training programme focused on “smart city strategies in Africa” in partnership with the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne in Switzerland. The initiative will accelerate the digital transformation of major metropolises such as Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech and Casablanca. This master’s degree on smart cities will take place on the campus of the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Ben Guerir.
