The Koudia wind farm will expand in the coming months. Morocco has just launched a call for tenders to select an energy developer for the repowering project of the park. The Moroccan authorities are looking for a manufacturer in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) category, according to the Moroccan Sustainable Energy Agency (Masen), which manages this project in partnership with Futuren, the subsidiary of the EDF Renewable Group.
The park’s repowering operation will dismantle the existing turbines and replace them with new generation wind turbines to ensure better performance. The installed capacity in this wind farm will therefore reach 120 MW after the redevelopment, an additional 70 MW. EPCs can respond to the call for tenders via Masen’s e-tendering platform accessible via https://masen.local-trust.com. Applications must be sent before April 30, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. (local time).
Developed by Compagnie du Vent and commissioned in 2000 by the National Water and Electricity Office (Onee), Koudia Al Baida Park is the first park of its kind in Africa. It has 91 turbines in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceina region (northwest Morocco).
Morocco boasts 11 wind farms in operation with a total installed capacity of 1200 MW and nearly 1100 MW under construction. Their implementation will bring Morocco’s wind power to 2300 MW.
Masen is the Moroccan group in charge of managing renewable energy projects. In line with its roadmap, it plans to develop an electricity production capacity of 3000 MW by 2020 and 6,000 MW by 2030. A strategy that will achieve a 52% renewable energy mix by 203O, the national target set by the Moroccan government.
