Sanitation services will soon be strengthened in Lalla Mimouna, a town in the province of Kenitra in Morocco. The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) of the Kingdom of Morocco will implement a liquid sanitation project there, which is currently being presented to the population. This approach aims to raise awareness of the importance of liquid sanitation for the preservation of the environment and the sustainable management of water resources, in a context marked by drought.
This step will be followed by the launch of the actual worksite, which will include the construction and equipment of a wastewater treatment plant in Lalla Mimouna. The treatment plant, connected to two pumping stations, will have a daily capacity of 1,186 m3.

The project also includes the laying of a 5 km long discharge pipe and a new 54 km long wastewater collection network. In the process, more than 2,500 households will be connected to the Kenitra sewerage system. Onee estimates that this liquid sanitation project will eventually benefit 15,767 people in the city of Lalla Mimouna. This work is part of the national shared liquid sanitation and treated wastewater reuse programme (PNAM) underway in Morocco.
To meet its commitments, the Moroccan public company will rely on financing of 80 million Moroccan dirhams (nearly 7.3 million euros) from the French Development Agency (AFD), the German Development Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union (EU).
