MOROCCO: Iresen and Mohammed VI University launch 2 masters courses on clean energy

NIGERIA: Solar hybrid power plant inaugurated at Alex Ekwueme University

For the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (Iresesen) and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Ben Guerir (UM6P) are offering master’s level courses in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors for the very first time. This initiative will train and bring to the Moroccan labour market engineers with expertise in these two areas on which most of the country’s energy policy is based.

One of the two masters courses, called Resma, will train engineers specialised in the electrical field oriented towards renewable energies and smart grids. It will be hosted by the UM6P Innovation Lab for Operations. The other master’s degree is called Green Building Engineering and Energy Efficiency (Green Bee) and will be hosted by the UM6P’s Centre for Innovation in Architecture, Planning and Design (SAP+ D). The training will be managed with the support of three partners, including Gobal EcoPower (GEP), Iresen and the École nationale française des travaux publics de l’État (ENTPE). It will train engineers in the field of Green Building and Energy Efficiency Engineering.

The duration of each of the two training courses is 18 months. In addition to the theoretical courses, learners will do practical work in the field of green technologies and will have access to the Green Energy Park and Green & Smart Building Park laboratories. These Masters Courses will offer future engineers the opportunity to follow the double curriculum and obtain both degrees. They will be held with the support of the École nationale française des travaux publics de l’État and the École Polytechnique, France’s most renowned engineering school.

For an education adapted to development

Energy efficiency and green energy occupy a prominent place in Morocco’s development plan, particularly with the 4CMaroc programme. In addition, sub-themes such as the modernization of existing electricity networks, green buildings, optimization of decentralized production, combined with the desire to limit the effects of global warming are issues at the top of the institutional agenda of the Cherifian kingdom. The creation of these two programmes is a means for the universities concerned to contribute to achieving the country’s ambitious objectives. Students from these two masters courses will be able to meet the ever-increasing demand for investor competence.
