The “Morocco Water Race” program was launched on November 4th, 2021. The aim of this initiative, implemented by Eaux Minérales d’Oulmès and Enactus Morocco, is to stimulate the search for innovative solutions in the water sector in Morocco. “A call for applications will be launched during this month of November 2021 by Enactus Morocco. This call for participation will be relayed on social networks,” say Oulmes Mineral Waters.
The projects proposed by the entrepreneurs, students for the first edition of “Morocco Water Race”, will have to answer several, in particular the access to drinking water and its supply, the preservation of the resource, the management of the water stress, the technologies of sanitation or extraction, the rational use of water and its reuse.
For better water supply services
Project leaders will be supported through awareness-raising conferences, bootcamps, and professional mentoring (scientists, engineers, sustainable development specialists, business leaders). “This operation is a direct response to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, established by the United Nations, which calls for universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation by 2030,” say Oulmes Mineral Waters.
This initiative should contribute to the adaptation to the drought which is raging in Morocco and could worsen according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa which sounded the alarm in a report published in March 2020. “By 2025, water stress is expected to worsen. Morocco could thus experience a state of water scarcity with forecasts of less than 1,000 m3 of fresh water available per year and per capita. A situation that would harm the kingdom’s economy,” the report said.
