The governor of the province of Khénifra in Morocco, Mohamed Fettah, is launching a project to modernize and extend its drinking water network. The General Directorate of Local Authorities of the Cherifian Kingdom is financing the work to the tune of 9 million euros.
The modernization and extension of the drinking water network of Khénifra in Morocco will be done in several phases. The precision was made by the governor of the said province, Mohamed Fettah during the ceremony of laying the first stone.
The first phase of the drinking water supply project, which is starting, involves the construction of about 20 km of pipes and the connection of 2,000 people to the drinking water network of Khénifra, a city in the region of Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
At least 52 villages will benefit
The aim is to ensure a continuous supply of drinking water to Khenifra, at a time when the province is facing water stress. In addition to this, the population growth and the dilapidated water facilities that cause water leaks.
As a result of the project, Khenifra will benefit from facilities for pumping, storage and distribution of drinking water. “Thus, at the end of all the work, the province will have pumping stations, 226 km of drinking water supply pipes, reservoirs and 52 standpipes,” said Governor Mohamed Fettah. These facilities will be able to supply the centers of El Kbab and Al-Borj, as well as 52 villages in the councils of El Kbab, El Hammam, Aït Ishaq, Ouaoumana, and Ait Saadelli in the province of Khénifra. At least 3,650 people will also be connected to the drinking water network.

The various phases of the Khenifra drinking water project will be carried out with funding of nearly 9 million euros allocated by the Directorate General of Local Government, 450,000 euros for the implementation of its first phase. The Directorate, under the supervision of the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior is involved in this project alongside the Council of the region of Beni Mellal-Khenifra, the Provincial Council of Khenifra, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (Onee), and the municipalities of El Hammam, El Kbab, Ouaoumana, Al-Borj, and Ait Ait Saadelli.
