The implementation of the green intervention projects approved by the President of the Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari in 2020 continues. On 11 August 2022, the Nigerian Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi inaugurated an integrated solid waste management system. This is a set of equipment that monitors waste management to ensure sustainable environmental protection in communities.
The new system covers Lafia. According to Minister Mohammed Abdullahi, the city in Nasarawa State, in north central Nigeria, has been facing environmental challenges for several years due to poverty, poor governance, urbanisation, population growth and low awareness.
Towards the development of the circular economy
Mohammed Abdullahi urged the beneficiary communities to ensure the maintenance of the equipment. The ultimate goal is to encourage the development of the circular economy through recycling and reuse in Nasarawa State.
