German car manufacturer Audi will market a new range of electric vehicles in South Africa. The new offer consists of several models such as the e-tron 55 Sportback and the RS e-tron GT. The first model is an SUV that will compete with the Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQC.
In 2021 alone, Audi’s electric car deliveries have increased by 58%. The German company is committed to developing the e-tron model range locally. To do so, consumers will be entitled to a new electric model each year that will be introduced to the South African market.
“By accelerating our transition to e-mobility, we fully embrace Audi’s global mission to transform into a premium sustainable mobility provider, in line with our brand’s global commitments to the Paris Climate Agreement,” says the Markus Duesmann-led company.

Audi wants to roll out 800,000 electric cars worldwide and particularly in Africa by 2025 from a dozen models launched in 2022. This ambition is now confronted with the determination of several Asian brands that are already attacking the South African market. These include Japan’s Nissan and now Eleksa EV, a Chinese manufacturer that has just launched the “CityBug” and is preparing an arsenal of vans for Pretoria showrooms.
