WEST AFRICA: ADFD funds two renewable energy projects

A dam is a structure built across a river for various purposes. In Africa, dams are mainly built for the production of electricity through hydroelectric power plants. They are also used to store water for irrigation or drinking water production. In both cases, the construction of dams requires a lot of material, technical and financial resources. This explains the slowness in exploiting the hydroelectric potential of the African continent. Among the countries with high hydropower potential in Africa are the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC, 100,000 MW), Ethiopia (30,000 MW) and Cameroon (20,000 MW).
