The Africa Energy Forum (AEF), one of the biggest energy events in Africa, will be held again this year in Barcelona, Spain. The event welcomes decision-makers, financial partners and, above all, professionals from the energy sector.

Among the personalities expected to attend the 26th Africa Enery Forum (AEF) is Monica Chang’anamuno, the Malawian Minister of Mines. Among other topics, she will be talking about the strategic minerals at the heart of the global objectives for the development of renewable energies. Electricity storage is an important issue, especially in African countries that are rapidly deploying renewable energy production units.

This is the case in South Africa, which is engaged in an energy transition forced on it by load shedding linked to the obsolescence of its coal-fired power stations. While the government is looking for ways out of the crisis by focusing on independent power producers (IPPs), the private sector is getting involved in leasing clean energy plants, encouraged by a recent law that allows up to 100 MW of clean electricity to be developed without prior approval from the regulator.

Most of these players will be among the 2,000 participants in AEF 2024. These include Amea Power, the Emirati IPP that has just completed the financing of its first 120 MWp solar project in the North West Province of South Africa. There is also the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the two main financial partners of the renewable energy sector in Africa.

They have just launched a bold plan to provide access to electricity for 300 million Africans by 2030. This vast partnership should also benefit solar panel manufacturers such as JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Longi and Trina Solar. These and other Chinese companies will be exhibiting their technologies at AEF 2024 in Barcelona.
