African Climate Week (ACW) 2023 was held from 4 to 8 September 2023 under the theme "African Solidarity for Global Climate Action". In parallel with this event organised by the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU) and the Kenyan government co-organised the first African Climate Summit in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. AFRIK 21 was at the heart of the summit, with a special report in partnership with the West African Development Bank (BOAD) on the continent's economic situation and environmental prospects in terms of financing, mitigation and resilience. This at a time when Africa needs more than 3,000 billion dollars to invest in mitigation and adaptation between now and 2030.
