“Sports practice and citizen involvement in favour of the environment”. This is the theme of a call for projects launched in Togo by the Autonomous District of Greater Lomé (DAGL). The initiative is aimed at sports federations and associations in the 13 communes of the capital, whose activities have a positive impact on ecosystems, especially fauna and flora.
The DAGL’s call for projects is part of the fourth phase of the Lomé Urban Environment Project (PEUL III), whose implementation aims to support awareness-raising activities for the population on waste management, as well as the strengthening of partnerships between civil society organisations (CSOs) and public authorities in the area of sustainable development. The projects selected will each receive financial support of up to 5 million CFA francs (over 7,600 euros) depending on the nature of the project selected. Interested organisations have until 22 July 2022 to apply.
Improving the living environment of the population
As a reminder, in its first three phases, the PEUL project has enabled the construction of the modern technical landfill of Akepé and the environmental safety of the old landfill of Agoè-Nyive located 18 km from Lomé. The project is financed by the municipality (10%), AFD (14%), the European Union (EU, 33%) and the West African Development Bank (BOAD, 43%).
