“Environmental challenges in the Mediterranean and the role of civil society” was the theme of a training course held in Tunisia from January 28 to 31, 2020. The workshop was an initiative of the Regional Programme “Med dialogue for rights and equality”. The training brought together about thirty participants from North Africa and the Middle East (Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, Palestine and Lebanon).
The objective of this four-day fast-track programme was to facilitate the development of regional networks and cooperation channels, the strengthening of actors’ capacities and the implementation of concrete actions on the ground to better fight against climate change.
In addition, with the aim of combining theory and practice, participants visited some local structures specialised in environmental conservation. The adventure thus enabled them to visit the premises of Tunisie Recyclage, an association that helps the inhabitants of the northern district of Tunis to sort and recycle waste. The visits to the field allowed them to better understand how they operate and to become immersed in the projects that these organisations carry out. All these experiences should help to implement a common action in the different countries represented. The work will be carried out under the technical supervision of the “Med Dialogue for Rights and Equality”.
This is a technical assistance programme, financed by the European Union, which will be carried out over four years (2019-2020) in the Mediterranean countries. This programme works to strengthen the capacities of civil society organisations in the social area, particularly in the area of sustainable development.
