Two drinking water projects have just been launched in the Kasserine governorates in the west and La Manouba in northern Tunisia. Led by the state-owned Water Operation and Distribution Company (Sonede), the objective of these projects is to provide drinking water to 2,600 families.
Good news for some of the populations of the Kasserine and La Manouba governorates. In the La Manouba in northern Tunisia, the National Water Development and Distribution Company (Sonede) recently launched work on the Hedeya City Drinking Water Supply Project in Jedaida. This includes connecting 100 families to the Sonede drinking water distribution system. It will thus be necessary to invest 69,000 Tunisian dinars to carry out this project, i.e. more than 20,000 euros.
This project is part of the drinking water supply project in La Manouba governorate, which provides for the connection of 548 households (in 108 districts) to the Sonede distribution network. The total cost is expected to be 171,000 dinars, or 51,000 euros.
Drinking water for 2,500 families in Kasserine
The largest project, however, is located in the governorate of Kasserine, in western Tunisia. Work will start in early 2020. It is an initiative of the Regional Council of the Governorate of Kasserine and the Regional Commission for Agricultural Development. The Sonede will have to drill two wells at the level of the South Kasserine delegation. These wells will operate with two pumping stations capable of supplying 2,160 m3 of water per day. The water will be stored in a new tank with a capacity of 3,000 m3. Sonede is also responsible for renovating the existing tanks at the South Kasserine delegation. The project involves laying 315 mm diameter pipes for water supply.
All these facilities will provide drinking water to 2,500 families, mainly in the El Kamour, Makroun, Bir Hamouda, Touafia and Ytima localities under the Hassi El Ferid delegation. In total, this project will cost 13 million Tunisian dinars, or close to 4 million euros.
