The “Green Economy” Programme, launched a few years ago by the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), plans to support three young project leaders in West Africa. The OIF’s West African regional office and the Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD) have launched a call for applications to support three Africans from Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin, who will be carrying out projects in the green economy sector. Through this call, the two organisations want to “support Francophone initiatives to promote consumption patterns and sustainable products”.

To participate, project authors must be members of a civil society organisation whose initiatives contribute to promoting the education of populations and organisations on climate change issues. The call is also addressed to members or founders of SMEs with a green solution whose prototype is already available or which has even been commercialised.

Projects must operate in one of the following three sectors:

– Education for sustainable consumption of populations and organisations;

– Contribution to sustainable production (development of products or solutions offering an alternative to consumption habits or production processes);

– Contribution to sustainable production through support for the deployment of an approach to improve production processes within a company (start-ups, cooperative or micro-enterprises).

In each of the three categories, a winner will be selected, to receive funding of up to 5 million CFA francs, or approximately 7600 euros. The money will be used to finance the project, which will be implemented from 2019 to 2020 and over a 12-month period.

More information is available at: (https://www.francophonie.org/IMG/pdf/appel_a_projects_promotion_mcpd_-_2019.pdf).

The Green Economy programme was presented in 2015 by the OIF, on the sidelines of the Cop 21 in Paris. It will be implemented over a four-year period, from 2019 to 2023, with the aim of strengthening the capacities of French-speaking African countries in the field of the green economy. The aim of the programme is to encourage States to integrate green policies into the formulation of their national development strategies.
